Bynäset - Hiking

At beautiful Bynäset on the Island Frösön, you can hike around a distance of about 7 km.

On Frösön at Bynäset you will find nice beaches that are located both on the north and south side of Bynäset. In popular terms it is called the “Östersund Riviera”. The north side offers a long black sandy beach and open grass areas for play and picnics – Västbyviken.

At beautiful Bynäset you can hike around a distance of about 7 km, run, bike and swim. Bring a backpack filled with snacks and something to drink and walk around the scenic spot. In the summer days when you feel warm you can walk to the beach and take a dip in the lake.

The area is protected by a shallow bay where the water is heated early. The view is something extraordinary with Åreskutan and Oviksfjällen.

Bynäset Runt (Green Trail)
Bynäset Runt is a 7 km long trail that takes you through varied forest landscapes along the shores of Lake Storsjön. For most of the way, the trail runs along the water, offering stunning views of the lake and mountains. It’s a little hilly in places and with plenty of tree roots, so it’s a bit more of an adventure. Along the way, you’ll find benches where you can pause and take in the scenery.

Bynäset Shortcut (Yellow Trail)
If you’re looking for a shorter option, the 2.4 km Bynäset Shortcut branches off from the main loop. It takes you across the headland along a fence line, following gravel paths, trails and sections of boardwalk.

Easy Access Trail (Red Trail)
The southern end of Bynäset has been adapted for easier access, with a 2 km gravel path leading down to a picnic spot by the lakeshore, with benches and tables.

All trails start from the large car park. Just before the car park, at the swimming area in Västbyviken, you’ll also find an accessible toilet.

How to get here
By bus: Take bus line 3 to the stop at Tunnangränd. From there, it’s about a 1.8 km walk down to Bynäset.
By car: From central Östersund, head towards Frösön and follow signs past Frösö Park Hotel. Keep going a short way, then turn off following the signs to Bynäset, where you’ll find a large car park.
