Try out a kick sled – In Sweden we call it a kick

Kick-sledding is a classic winter activity, an invention that goes back 150 years. If you’ve never given it a go, you have a great experience in store.
Most people can manage a kick sled, no matter how old or fit they are. It’s a fun way to enjoy the great outdoors while getting some exercise, in the most environmentally friendly way.

You stand on one of the kick sled’s runners, while you kick backwards on the ground with the other foot to propel yourself forward. If it’s icy, grips on your shoes will make it easier to for you to kick yourself along.

Two people can travel together on a kick sled as the passenger sits snugly in a seat on the front section, and after no more than a couple of minutes of practice you’ll master the “right” kick technique.

Many of Östersund’s pedestrian and bike paths are not sanded on one side to make it easier for people to get around by kick sled.

There are plenty of forest roads around the city that aren’t sanded, and Lake Storsjön has an ice track that’s perfect for a kick-sled ride on a sunny winter day. Take a thermos and a bite to eat with you. You might even fancy a night-time adventure by the light of your head torch
