7 places to go swimming

Östersund is located next to the 5th largest lake in Sweden and there are many wonderful spots for bathing whether you would like to hang out at the beach or prefer to dip your toes into a pool.

When the summer is here, the sun is warming and the evenings are longer and brighter, we are many who yearn for a wonderful swim 24 hours a day. Here are 7 swimming tips for you this summer. Choose from hanging out in Surfbukten with jetties and relaxing areas, Hara Brygga or the pebble beaches along lake Storsjön at Bynäset or Andersön. At Lits Camping you will find a sandy beach and at Storsjöbadet you can enjoy the pools and adventure. Maybe you feel like having an extra relaxing time and treat your self to a nice time at a spa – then Frösö Park Spa, Cloud Spa or Gamla Teatern Hamam got lots to offer.

Surfbukten

Right near the City Centre, you'll find Surfbukten, with a diving tower and a number of jetties and hangout spots where you can chill out.

Here you can also play beach volleyball and just nearby is the park Dalhemsparken with a pump track and an outdoor gym, perfect as a warm up before a dip in the lake.

On Frösön

On Frösön at Bynäset, you will find a long shallow bay for bathing, with a stony beach and stunning views of the mountains.

The area has som simple services such barbeque area. Out on Bynäset there are also nice paths for walking, running or cycling. The trail, which is just under 7 km, winds in a varied forest environment along the beaches of Storsjön.

Andersön

The island of Andersön is a popular destination. It is a nature reserve located 15 km from Östersund.

Along its beautiful stony beaches there are many cosy, long shallow bays where you can enjoy a swim with a view of the mountains, and there are also trails for walking or jogging.

Lits Camping

At Lits Campsite, there is a lovely sandy beach at Älvlagunen. Here are also 2 stationary jetties and one jettie floating around. Beachvolley plan.

Lits Campsite is located about 15 kilometres from the City Centre of  Östersund.  Here you will find a lovely sandy beach, beachvolley ball pitch and fantastic fishing. You can also hire canoes for a day, a weekend or long trips up to 14 days. You are welcome to visit for a day out on the beach or a canoe trip even if you dont stay at the campsite.

Hara brygga

At Hara Brygga, Hara pier, people go swimming from the old steamboat pier. Here is a popular summer café with lots of tasty home made buns and cakes.

Hara is a popular place for a  “Swedish fika” and a swim in the lake. Here is also a small bathing bay with pebble beach and grassy areas to relax on.

The café is open every day until Sun 18/8, at 11.00-21.00.
Payment is by swish or cash, Swish can sometimes be unstable so please bring cash.

Storsjöbadet

Storsjöbadet adventure pools is fun whatever the weather. It has several outside pools, large green areas, a beachvolleyball pitch and a playground.

Inside there is an adventure pool with three water slides, a climbing wall and jacuzzi. And the very youngest get their own pool with water slides and a fountain. If you prefer a bit more peace and quiet, then pop into the spa for an authentic Aufguss sauna experience.
