The Swedish traditions often have old roots, some can be traced back to the pagan age of Sweden. Many traditions have come from German traders or from the Protestant church. Some traditions are so old that we have forgotten their origins, but we still celebrate them, because we always have done so. The traditions become part of the life cycle, they give the humans a sense of time and the year a rhythm.

In Sweden, many traditions are strongly linked to the shifts of nature. Other traditions are linked to the farmer’s year, to the spring farming, hunting- and fishing seasons and to the harvest season.
