Tourist attractions

On Storsjön’s largest island Frösön lies Frösö Church, one of Sweden’s most popular wedding churches with magnificent views of Storsjö countryside and mountain values. Just below the church is Sommarhagen – composer Wilhelm Peterson-Berger’s home and Arnljotlägdan where you can experience one of Sweden’s most beautiful free air scenes where Viking play Arnljot is played during the summer. In Brunflo a little outside the center of Östersund there is Brunflo Church and Kastal. The castle is the only one preserved in Norrland and is considered Jämtland’s oldest medieval building.

Here in Östersund there are more beautiful houses, places and churches to visit. The Jamtli museum contains the Överhogdals bonads, which were found in 1910 in a residence next to the Överhogdal church in Härjedalen, and on Frösön is Sweden’s northernmost runstone from 1030-1050 A.D.
